Fruitcake Toss Day and other Important Holidays! by Kristen Math
The school calendar that we have hanging in our kitchen is a testament to my children’s love for days off. Each holiday is highlighted in yellow with the clear message “No School”. Even I have lost track of why we celebrate certain occasions. It seems that all that matters in our house is getting those extra few hours of sleep on the days when school is not in session.
We have often lamented the fact that there are too few holidays. This is particularly true in the darker winter months when we all feel the need to hibernate in the family room with popcorn, hot chocolate and a good movie. It appears though, that we have discovered the perfect solution. You see, there is actually a holiday for each day in each month…and I propose that we take these holidays quite seriously and begin to celebrate them by taking the day off! |
