He enjoys repeating lines and dialogue from movies repetitively but doesn't seem to use it as a form of conversation (like my brother).

He distinguishes between "your words" and "movie talk" when asked.

If anything, he probably is a tad lacking in the attention span department (hello, who are his parents?) 😄

I forgot that your brother has Autism. You know what you are talking about. Definitely trust your gut. It will be okay no matter what. I know it's scary but it's really just a label and it will open doors to resources if you need them.

Testing for DS1

As far as being on a disorder witch hunt .... Trust your instincts.

We see a lot of moms who have noticed something is off that sends their spider senses tingling. They start googling it and are then more concerned.

Sometimes testing confirms a diagnosis (which leads to suggestions for interventions) and sometimes it provides information that the child is doing okay. Either way, it's good information and a parent who is sensitive to their child's needs and behaviors is respected as being on top of things.

Ask if you can be put on the waiting list in the event of cancellations. Then call about once a week or so and very sweetly ask if there are any cancellations. Make friends with the receptionist or scheduler or whomever/everyone you talk to. Then be prepared to jump through hoops of fire if they call you. We ended up getting a last minute "someone just cancelled, can you be here in half an hour?" call. I said "of course" and then scrambled like a maniac to get there. I got K1's OT evaluation moved up about 3 months that way. Made a big difference getting OT started 3x weekly for the whole summer, before the new school year. Otherwise, we would have waited until after the school year started and then he would have only been able to go 1x weekly.

No cancellations yet.
The last two days have been filled with crying for Daddy and acting out.

DH has a hard time with his work/life balance, so he wants to be fun dad and let DS stay up later, etc., but it is killing me.
We talked last weekend and I expressed how hard it is to regroup the following day on a sleep deficit. I think he's starting to understand that bedtime and limited screen time is not to be messed with.

Transitions are still the hardest part of any day.

Yup. Yesterday, I left the kids alone with DrK for 2 hours. He was playing "dinosaur" with them which involved a 3 kids vs daddy wrestling match. Then, K1 got all keyed up and couldn't slow down. The boys ended up smashing a whole watermelon on the kitchen floor.

The school district called, and moved up his total team eval for 2 weeks from now.
I'm happy! They had a cancellation.
