I am in need of a good pair of shoes to wear with dark brown pants. I have one pair that I purchased recently. A twill fabric - nothing fancy (to go with my new nothing fancy salary). Although I would love high style, I need it to be comfortable. I generally will need to walk several blocks in them to get to work, plus lots of stairs.

I've got these and they are comfy, but are on their last legs and need replacing.

So I really dislike being cold, but I am a big cheapo so the 2 pairs of winter boots I currently have were between $20-$30. I'm thinking of splurging and buying some nicer boots that will actually keep my feet look warm, but I'd like them to be somewhat stylish (not heels) but I'm not necessarily impressed with the look of uggs.

I'm thinking maybe northface, but I have no idea if they are any good. Any suggestions on winter boots?

Hi guys --

As fall approaches (and we are installing our new closet system in our master bedroom suite!), I've been going through my clothes. I'm a fashion idiot, so they are mostly a disaster. I've been trying to bring it up a notch. :) Still, I have absolutely no skill in this area. Here's my problem of the day:

I have a beautiful dark camel-colored leather skirt. It is long, A-line - very classic looking. Not "leather skirt on a twenty something at a club". It's a quality leather too and very soft to the touch. I've kept the skirt because it is very flattering, comfortable and I inherited it from my mother. Every year, I think I will figure out how to wear it. I never do. I'd still like to keep it but I need to use it or lose it. It hits below the knee. I think it would look good with boots and a sweater - but what kind of boots (color) do you wear with a brown leather skirt? Regular shoes? Everything seems weird. I do better at picking things to go with it on top - but I tend to play it safe and pick a cream colored sweater or some such thing. Not sure what else to pair with it. I will try to find a picture of a similar skirt in a different fabric.

Any advice? It seems a shame to donate it. I'm sure some one with a better sense of fashion could figure it out.

Ok, so I'm a little backward when it comes to technology. If I could get away with it, I'd probably write this note with a quill by candlelight. I hate spending lots of money on new technology only to have it become obsolete immediately and I'm particuarlly wary of any gadget that will become an on-going expense. That said, I'm thinking about getting an iPhone because I think it may give me more flexibility to get out of my cave-like home office more often without feeling guilty about running an errand or having lunch if I cannot respond to e-mails. Since I telecommute, I'd say that about 90% of my communication with my clients and collegues is via e-mail. Some days, DrK is the only adult that I speak to in person. (Not healthy! I really do need to get out more.) So, tell me. Is the iPhone all that it's cracked up to be? Is it worth the cost of the phone and service plan? Is this something that will measurably improve my life? Or will I find myself teathered to another devise that will drain my pocketbook?

Vishenka/Lily - do you have any suggestions on a coat that might look okay on a petite person? The other challenge is I want one that is on the longer side since I want to stay as warm as possible.

Today I came home from dropping Mags off at ballet. I had been at my mom's babysitting my niece along with my own kids before that. I had no make-up, hair was yanked into a messy ponytail (it's curly so it's always messy), was wearing a free t-shirt from the ad agency I used to work at, denim capri pants and cute canvas flats. The only thing cute were my shoes and purse. Add the toddler hanging on me and the 10 year old waiting to get into the house and I was the picture of the frumpy frazzled housewife who has let herself go.

It wouldn't have been a big deal if the new lawn guy wasn't at our house. That also wouldn't have been a big deal if the new lawn guy hadn't said, "Hey, don't I know you? Veronica?" Umm...yeah. Note to husband -- don't hire a guy I went to elementary school with (who happened to be quite the hunk from 6th grade through high school) to mow our yard.

This can't happen again. I refuse. I need to start exercising again. It's too hot here right now to wear jeans though. In fact, I find myself changing at least once during the day because it's just too damn hot period. My usual uniform since becoming a SAHM is a t-shirt (mostly v-necks from Gap or Target) with capri pants, or a skirt and flip flops (Yellow Box or Target, I'm not picky). How to make myself a bit more stylish, while still being able to keep up with a 3 year old? I need help.

I can't get behind the arizonas, and naturally there were no socks involved. For commuting, they looked sort of cute, in a funny way, with my Kensie black sheath dress and Marc Jacobs patent pink purse. LOL!
This is how it goes when you have back spasms.
